What is Augmented Reality?

Augmented Reality (AR) is the technique of taking digital visual media (words, video, interactive 3D animations, motion graphics) and laying it over-top of the real space around them. You have probably seen this concept enacted in sci fi movies.

Clout can create a world where your customers have information virtually hover in mid-air over a storefront, have sales pricing and user reviews pop-up over-top of an item on a shelf or a trailer play when they look at a movie poster.

This is commonly accomplished by using software on camera-enabled mobile devices or through a “Reality Browser”. An example of a Reality Browser that provides AR technology is “Layer,” a program for Android phones that have cameras. As users aim and look through the cameras on their phones, the software recognizes the objects that are on-screen and superimposes the media.
